COLOURFUL DRYPOINT

LOCATION:

Chocolate Factory, Centrespace Studios, 6 Leonard Lane, Bristol, BS1 1EA

DATES:

Thursday 21st May

6.30-9pm

£30pp

In this fun and informal workshop you will have the chance to learn an exciting, traditional printmaking technique and produce several colourful prints. Drypoint, like etching and engraving, belongs to the Intaglio family of printmaking, but is much more simple and direct than its relatives. In drypoint the surface of the plate is scratched, gouged, punctured, scraped or abraded, but the material itself is not removed, it is just pushed to the side, forming a burr. It is this 'burr' which holds the ink, and gives a drypoint line, or area, its typical velvety appearance. You will learn how to create lively marks using drypoint needles, drawing directly onto the surface of a plate. You'll be introduced to varying ways of adding colour and tonal ranges to you images, including inking techniques, and Chine-colle.

The workshop will take place in the spacious workshop room - The Chocolate Factory in Centrespace Studios, which is home to over 30 artist studios in the Old City of Bristol. Bicycle parking is inside the building and is easy to walk to from the city centre.
