Service Description

Join us for a captivating 10-week Intro to Printmaking course at Jemma's Studio in Backwell! Designed for participants of all abilities, this printmaking journey will explore the diverse realms of monoprinting, relief printing, drypoint, collagraph, and screen printing techniques, fostering a creative and playful environment. Week 1-2: Monoprinting Monoprinting is a unique printmaking process where each print is one of a kind. During these weeks, you'll experiment with both additive (adding ink) and subtractive (removing ink) processes, use stencils, and draw directly onto the plate. Embrace the unpredictability and spontaneity of monoprinting, allowing your creative expression to flourish. Week 3-4: Introduction to Relief Printing Learn the art of relief printing, a process where the image to be printed is raised from the background. You'll work with linoleum blocks, carving out your designs and experimenting with various mark-making techniques. Relief printing focuses on creative play, encouraging you to explore different textures and patterns. Week 5-6: Drypoint Printing Drypoint printing, a form of intaglio printmaking where you'll create incised lines onto a plate, that will hold ink. Drypoint prints are known for their rich, velvety lines, and this session encourages you to push your artistic boundaries and produce prints that showcase your individuality. Week 7-8: Collagraph Printing Dive into the tactile world of collagraph printing, a process that involves creating textured plates with various materials. You'll build up surfaces using diverse materials and incorporate found objects to create intricate and textured prints. This session celebrates artistic play and the joy of discovering unexpected results through texture and layering. Week 9-10: Screen Printing Conclude your printmaking journey with screen printing, a versatile and popular technique. Screen printing involves creating stencils (or screens) and using them to apply layers of ink onto your chosen surface. You'll learn about screen preparation, stencil creation, and multi-colour printing techniques, resulting in bold and vibrant prints. This final session brings all the skills together in a dynamic and exciting process. If you would like to pay in instalments, please email Jemma - jemma_gunning@hotmail.co.uk
